Farzin Haghparast, Head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of East Azerbaijan said following the visits of international experts to Iran and the evaluations of the members of World Crafts Council’s board of directors, Tabriz was chosen as winner of the World Crafts City title in 2015.
President of WCC Usha Krishna and President of WCC-Asia Pacific Region Ghada Hijjawi visited carpet halls of Tabriz Municipality and Tabriz Museum in July following the nomination of Tabriz along with 5 other cities for the title of World Crafts city in 2015.
“In the last WCC board meeting in 2015, Iranian cities of Tabriz and Isfahan were globally inscribed with overwhelming majority votes from heads of North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific,” Haghparast said.
According to Haghparast, the World Crafts City title will facilitate Tabriz’s access to global markets and help develop the city’s crafts exports.
