The eighth day of the 37th round of William Jones Cup went underway on Saturday in Taiwan. The Saturday competition saw a brilliant performance by Iranian national basketball team against Russian opponents which concluded in a decisive victory for Iran with the results of 78-54.
The 2015 William Jones Cup will come to an end on Sunday but today’s game against Russia concluded Iran’s eighth competition in this tournament. Iran had previously played against and defeated South Korea, Taiwan A and B, Japan, the Philippines and New Zealand representatives. The Iranian basketball players were defeated only against USA Select-Overtake on Wednesday.
This year’s victory in the William Jones Cup marks Iran’s fourth championship in the tournament. Iranian national basketball team was crowned a champion in William Jones Cup of 2009, 2011 and 2013. In 2012, Iranian basketball club Mahram participated in the tournament and finished runner-up.
The 2015 William Jones Cup started in Taiwan on August 29 and will run until September 6. The event is a top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia.
