TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani cabled a message on Sunday to felicitate Uzbek president, government and nation on the country's National Day.

In the message to his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov on the occasion of Uzbekistan's Independence Day, President Rouhani touched upon the good record of bilateral relations between Iran and Central Asian country.

He expressed hope that historical and cultural affinities between the two nations would lead to deepening of relations in line with mutual interests at regional and international levels.

The Republic of Uzbekistan, a landlocked country in Central Asia, obtained independence from the former Soviet Union on September 1, 1991.
