TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (MNA) – Iran’s defense minister has said a new contract has been signed with Russia and the previous contract will be completed by the end of 2015 to supply Iran with S-300 missile system.

Congratulating on the National Day of Defense Industry and the National Week of Government in a live TV program, Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan reported that, “the previous contract had been canceled but after the recent negotiations Iran and Russia have reached an agreement to deliver S-300 surface-to-air missile systems.”

“A new contract has been signed and we have reached full understanding on the matter together with Russia and by the end of 2015 the majority of S-300 missile systems will be delivered,” he added.

Stating that Resolution 1929 had banned any sort of activity in the field of ballistic missile, Dehghan asserted that, “in the new Resolution (2331) they have asked Iran not to design nuclear-capable ballistic missiles; something that we are not looking for at all.”

“We design ballistic, cruise, and defensive missiles in accordance with our needs and the range of our missiles will be proportional to the threat element,” added defense minister.

Referring to the Islamic Awakening trend in the region, Dehghan said that, “the US had planned to interfere with this trend and intended to gain influence upon the countries in the Resistance Axis and targeted Syria by equipping Takfiri groups."

Responding to the question whether the Islamic Republic of Iran will take up a new look towards “Resistance” after the nuclear deal; he said that, “the power of resistance would be our strategic goal and we will support the Resistance Axis.”

Pointing to the Iranophobia project, the defense minister concluded that, “all our neighboring countries believe that Iran is not meddling in other countries and the dominating powers are seeking Israel’s security by running the Iranophobia campaign.”
