TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (MNA) – Following the third yellow card shown to Iran’s economy minister, the Parliament Presiding Board notified his impeachment.

Iran’s Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Ali Tayebnia attended the Majlis open session on Sunday to respond to the lawmakers’ questions. The session was attended by 211 lawmakers and chaired by Majlis Vice-Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi Fard.

The minister failed to convince MP Mehrdad Bazrpash during the questioning session in the Parliament and after 105 MPs voted against him, Tayebnia received the third yellow card in his tenure which leads to impeachment of him.

The impeachment proceeding against Tayebnia was approved with 25 signatures, yesterday in the afternoon.

Under the Iranian Constitution, lawmakers can impeach a minister when they deem it necessary. An impeachment motion can be submitted when it has at least ten signatures.

The minister must appear on Parliament floor within ten days after the submission of the impeachment motion in order to answer the questions raised by legislators, give explanation on his performance and seek a vote of confidence.
