TEHRAN, Jun. 19 (MNA) – Kovac’s men made retaliatory defeat for US volleyball team at home in Tehran.

Iran and US volleyball teams played the first match in second round of Pool B of FIVB World League at 9 pm on Friday here in Tehran. USA who is leading the pool with winning all 6 games in first round of the games seemed astonished by enthusiastic fans of Iran roaring at Azadi Stadium.

Slobodan Kovac’s boys managed to win the first set of the game with significant 6-point gap with 25 scores over 19. The American players began the second set better and took the lead up to 8-5, which was leveled at 8-8; but soon USA managed to go ahead of Iran with 1 or 2 scores lead until Iran made the level at 23-23. The one by one scoring race continued to make Iran finish the set 29-27.

While the USA was performing better in third set until 5-5 level score, their several errors along with Iranian players’ self-confident performance put Iran ahead at 17-11. The fight continued with almost the same gap when at the end Iranian squad finished the third set with 5-point lead 25-20 to impose the first defeat to the 2014 World League champion.

In their first round of games, US had managed to win Iran 3-0 and 3-1. The two teams arescheduled to clash again on Sunday evening at 21:00 Tehran time, 16:30 GMT and 9:30 PST.
