TEHRAN, Apr. 23 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani is in Indonesia to participate in a meeting of Asian and African nations in Jakarta.

President Rouhani had meetings with a few country’s officials including China, Vietnam and Indonesia on the sidelines of the major event. In meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping, Rouhani praised the good position and constructive role of China in Iran’s nuclear negotiations with 5+1, and emphasized that both countries should extend bilateral trade and relations provisioned during a meeting between both presidents last year.

Rouhani pointed to cooperation with China in energy sector; “apart from energy, Iran has higher capacities in infrastructure, transportations, railroad, ports and modern technology for attracting investments,” he told Chinese counterpart.

Chinese President Xi Jinping for his part said China and Iran could cooperate in economy based on the Silk Road model, which included, inter alia, railroads and sea routes; “China welcomes drafting of economic grand roadmap, and would invest in energy, ports, railroad and advanced cutting-edge technologies,” Xi told Rouhani.

He also hailed ‘laudable role’ played by Iran’s president and foreign minister in promoting nuclear negotiations; “Beijing welcomes Lausanne joint statement; we hope that the priceless outcome, achieved through hard work, would bring a comprehensive, fair and dependable deal; China strictly supports removal of economic sanctions, since sanctions impeded international cooperation and trade, and bilateral ties as well,” he said. Xi also welcomed Iran’s role and political initiative in bringing ceasefire to Yemen.

Rouhani also held a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, where both presidents emphasized upon more active role for joint economic commission.

Rouhani expressed gratitude for holding of meeting of Asian and African nations in Indonesia; “Iran highly regards its relations with Indonesia as the greatest Islamic country; we welcome broadening ties with Indonesia in terms of trade and cultural relations to the level proportionate to capacities of both nations and their ample resources,” Rouhani told his counterpart.

“Iran’s private sector has the necessary expertise to participate in Indonesian competitive market,” president said, touching upon the issue of terrorism and extremism as his catchphrase in recent few months since he assumed the president’s office in August 2013. He believed that terrorism was a threat to the world and all should work in close collaboration to fight and defeat its manifestations.

Indonesian president for his part, said that his country, as having most populous Muslim communities, and the promoter of a modern interpretation of Islam respecting peaceful coexistence of all faiths, would welcome extending ties with Iran in all sectors including fighting terrorism.

In meeting with Vietnamese President Trương Tấn Sang, Rouhani hoped that the meeting would be a fresh start of a better ties with Vietnam; Rouhani praised Vietnamese people’s excellent history in resisting foreign occupation in protecting independence as valuable experience.

Mr. Sang said that both Vietnam and Iran had similar positions in international issues; “Vietnam hails expansion of ties with Iran and Hanoi should take greater steps in the road to more economic cooperation with Tehran,” he emphasized.
