Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi maintained President Rouhani’s visit comes at the invitation of Indonesian counterpart for attending the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference which inspired the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in 1961.
The Islamic Republic of Iran took over from Egypt as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement for the period 2012 to 2015.
According to Iran’s ambassador, 109 countries and 20 international and regional organizations have been invited to take part at the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) in Jakarta and Bandung. Some 80 countries have confirmed their attendance in the event.
Mohammadi Nasrabadi said President Rouhani will deliver a speech at the conference and hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event with heads of some countries including Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and the host President Joko Widodo.
Mohammadi Nasrabadi deemed the meetings between Iran and Indonesia’s heads a good opportunity for the both sides to further cooperation and find solutions to remove obstacles.
Schedules for holding bilateral meetings between President Rouhani and other heads of Asian, African and South-East Asian countries are being organized, he said.
Indonesia is hosting celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) in Jakarta and Bandung.
The event’s ministerial level meetings kicked off today in Jakarta, with the attendance of Iran’s deputy FM Ebrahim Rahimpour. The Asian-African summit will then be held in the capital from April 22 to 23, with Indonesian President Joko Widodo scheduled to give the opening address.
