In a phone conversation with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian criticized the Saudi Arabian officials for their lack of cooperation in sending humanitarian aid to Yemeni people and called on the ICRC to prevent a human catastrophe in Yemen by creating safe routes to give relief goods to defenseless people affected by foreign military aggression.
Peter Maurer, for his part, expressed appreciation with the Islamic Republic’s concern over the urgency of providing humanitarian aid to Yemeni people, adding “during the past week, the ICRC has made extensive efforts to urge the Saudi officials to send medical aids and food to the Yemeni people but it has been so far unsuccessful in its efforts.”
He stressed that the ICRC will continue these efforts until the desirable results are reached.
It has also been decided that the ICRC deputy visit Tehran in the near future to coordinate between Iran’s humanitarian organization Red Crescent and the Red Cross committee for sending the Islamic Republic’s aids to Yemen.
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday submitted a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon outlining a four-point peace plan to resolve Yemen's crisis. The plan includes ceasefire and an immediate end to all foreign military attacks; unimpeded urgent humanitarian and medical assistance to the people of Yemen; Resumption of Yemeni-lead and Yemeni-owned national dialogue, with the participation of the representatives of all political parties and social groups; and Establishment of an inclusive national unity government.
