Zarif started his tour of the Central Asian country on Sunday. On Monday, he met Nursultan Äbishuly Nazarbayev after his meeting with the speaker of country’s Senate chamber Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev hours before. In his tour of Kazakhstan, Zarif discussed regional and international developments as well as addressing agreements signed in last September during President Rouhani’s visit to the country.
On Monday morning local time, Zarif addressed a meeting of Iranian nationals working or living in Kazakhstan and met his Kazakh counterpart. He also attended a group of Astana University students. On Sunday night, Zarif gave an interview with Kazakh state-run TV channel and attended the dinner feast held in his honor by Kazakh foreign minister after he landed in Astana.
In address to Iranians living in Kazakhstan, Zarif touched upon nuclear negotiations and cooperation with neighboring countries. He also attended Astana KAZGUU Academic Diplomatic Club (opened recently in Kazakh Law and Humanities University grounds) and addressed the students. On the second day in Kazakhstan, Zarif led an economic delegation in meeting with Kazakhstan’s relevant delegation also led by country’s Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov before attending a joint press conference with him.
Zarif left Kazakhstan for Tehran later on Monday. He has on agenda visits to Spain and Portugal, to where he will go after a short stay in northwestern city of Tabriz.
