Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi talked to media about today meetings saying that “meeting between foreign ministers was very important and details of issues were touched upon. That’s while previous ministerial talks were on general issues.”
Araghchi highlighted that unresolved topics were addressed seriously; solution to most of the issues are found and on few remaining topics, ministers offered their comments and deputies and experts will continue working on them. Following the ministerial level talks, meetings at expert-level continued.
In response to a question of how close a possible agreement is, Iranian official asserted that “although good progress is made in negotiations, it’s too early to speak of considerable progress in talks. The two sides are working on different ideas and possible solutions. We are not in a situation to say we are close to solutions; we, however, are hopeful and trying hard.
Araghchi also expressed hope that discussions could be concluded by the end of today or tomorrow. He stated that all FMs, except Russian FM, will stay in Lausanne to help the progress of talks which indicates strong will of all parties to reach a final deal.
About the schedule of negotiations on upcoming days, Araghchi emphasized that reaching a final solution would be possible ‘any moment,’ however he deemed an agreement on Monday ‘unlikely.’ “It is also possible that we figure out that reaching a solution is not possible and we would have to change the course of negotiations. I hope meetings on next two days would bear results.”
Iranian negotiator stated that in case of reaching a final agreement, conclusion meeting should be held in UN headquarters in Geneva.
