The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Planning Director Hassan Montazer Torbati told Mehr News by increasing South Pars gas production up to 100 million cubic meters, Iran would have no limitation to export gas to the neighboring country; “once Iraq’s pipelines and facilities are ready, the Islamic Republic will launch its gas export by mid-April.”
According to him, negotiations with the Iraqi side to finalize the gas export deals are under way.
NIGC CEO Alireza Kameli also announced today an Iranian delegation has departed for Iraq to hold negotiations on how to implement the details of the deal on gas exports to Baghdad and Basra during the current week.
“Due to the problems the terrorist group ISIL has caused Iran’s gas export facility to Diyala Governorate in Baghdad, the visit of the Iranian delegation is aimed at removing the security issues as well,” maintained Kameli.
According to the report, Iran-Baghdad big gas deal entails the gas export of 5 million cubic meter per day to Basara for six years to be implemented one year after the deal has been struck (in 2017) and will increase up to 30 million cubic meters of gas per day.
