TEHRAN, Dec. 30 (MNA) – Spokesman for AEOI has dismissed the news surrounding the launch of nuclear power plants construction in Iran.

Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi told IRNA that the nuclear power plant construction project has just entered the implementation phase and the construction has not yet begun.

While maintaining that the major part of the initial construction would be carried out by Iranian companies, he added, “at the end of the execution phase, bidding process will be launched among them to decide which company would take on which part of the construction.”

Kamalvandi estimated that the construction of the two nuclear power plants would start sometime in March 2015.

He also referred to the Monday visit of a number of officials, ambassadors and diplomats from Foreign Ministry to Fordow Enrichment Plant, adding that the visit was aimed at familiarizing officials and diplomats with technical points and giving a better picture of what they are defending.

Under an agreement signed in Moscow on November 11, Russia is to build two new nuclear power plant units in Iran.

Moscow will also cooperate with Tehran on developing more nuclear power units in Iran, and consider producing nuclear fuel components there, according to a memorandum signed by the heads of the state atomic bodies, Sergey Kirienko of Russia's Rosatom and Ali Akbar Salehi of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI).

Iran already runs one Russian-built reactor in its Bushehr power plant which is now fully connected to the national grid and covers part of the country’s needs for electricity.
