TEHRAN, Dec. 02 (MNA) – Iran’s Deputy FM for Arab and African Affairs said that while outsiders pursue merely their own interests, regional countries can hope to realize their progress, stability and security by means of reliance on sincere and authentic regional cooperation.

Third meeting of Iran-Oman Joint Strategic Talks and Political Consultations Committee co-chaired by deputy foreign ministers of both countries was held in Muscat on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several aspects of bilateral relations, regional and international cooperation and the latest developments in the region and emphasized the need for continuing consultations and deliberations between the two countries.

Pointing to the mutual ties between Iran and Oman, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abldollahian emphasized Omani’s realistic, balanced and reasonable perspectives, saying that the continuation of consultations with Oman can have an effective role in the stability and security of the region.

Noting the common threats against regional countries including extremism and terrorism, Iran’s Deputy FM Hossein Amir-Abldollahian reiterated increased consultation and cooperation of Tehran, Muscat and neighboring countries in the region as for security and defense issues.

Hossein Amir-Abldollahian referred to ineffective actions taken by the US-led coalition against ISIL and added, “while outsiders pursue merely their own interests, people in the region can hope to realize their progress, stability and security by means of reliance on sincere and authentic regional cooperation."

Highlighting Iran’s special place and constructive role in the region, Under-Secretary of the Omani Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs Ahmed bin Yousef bin Obaid al-Harthy said that holding regular joint committees between the two countries, especially the strategic joint committee, showed the dedication and determination of higher officials of the two countries to develop and strengthen cooperation in multilateral ties.

Pointing to the increased regional insecurity caused by terrorist acts like ISIL, Political Deputy Minister Ahmed Al-Harthy stressed increased cooperation and consultation between all the countries in the region, including Iran and Oman.
