TEHRAN, Sep. 30 (MNA) – Irish parliament speaker is in Tehran to improve bilateral relations after almost two decades of cold relations with Iran.

Speaker of the Irish Parliament Mr. Sean Barrett will meet with Ali Larijani, his Iranian counterpart and other officials on Tuesday. His visit is believed to a new overture in Tehran-Dublin relations which had a thin sheet of ice in last two decades, to which Ireland, analysts believe, has reacted positively in line with EU and US strategy toward Iran after the ISlamic Republic  and the G5+1  clinched a deal in Geneva last November in nuclear stalemate to return Iran back to international community.

In line with the policy, Ireland has been active recently in political exchange of officials; the head of Irish Parliament Foreign Relations Committee and former prime minister, head of Irish foreign ministry’s regional office during past year. Iran’s parliamentary friendship group also visited Ireland in return for Irish officials’ visit to Tehran.

Irish officials complain that western sanctions severely hit EU economic relations with Iran, and with political détente, they hope, the level of bilateral trade would improve. Dublin-based Irish Times daily quoted a FM spokesman saying that sanctions relief would lift barriers on the way of Irish-Iranian trade.
