TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (MNA) – Iran’s president has said the country has bolstered its military power ‘only for defensive purposes.’

President Hassan Rouhani, who was speaking in a visit to Civil Aviation Organization, said that security, development and democracy of the region would lose significance without Iran.

“Islamic Republic’s strategy is effective defense;” said he, and that “Iran does not seek confrontation or interference with internal affairs of the other countries.”

He asserted that Iran developed indigenous missiles to bolster defensive capabilities; “we would never remain passive against foreign threats,” he added.

“Our military might will secure the country and its neighbors,” added Rouhani.

Addressing the ceremony of National Day of Defense Industry on Sunday Rouhani pointed to Iran’s military power as a capability to increase regional security and emphasized that with boosting military, “ Iran is not seeking an arms race in the region, but boosting defense power.”

“Iran never seeks to obtain Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) or any other unconventional weapons, despite the fact that it is itself a victim of chemical attack; it rather wants a world without WMD,” noted Rouhani.

On National Day of Defense Industry President Hassan Rouhani visited Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization and unveiled four aerial industry products, including two indigenous drones Karrar 4, Mohajer 4, and two indigenous missiles Qadeer and Nasr Basir.
