Ali Akbar Velayati who is also a senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Republic, told reporters on Saturday after a meeting with South Korean deputy foreign minister that nuclear negotiators had been moving within the framework informed by Leader’s guidelines, and that they had Leader’s support with them.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran acts based on its ‘principled positions;’ it wants to enjoy peaceful nuclear program by the virtue of being a member of the IAEA and without giving in the excessive demands of the western parties to negotiations,” he told the press. Velayati also rejected the recent remarks by some US and EU officials as ‘going beyond the Geneva Joint Plan of Action; “in order for Iran to secure its rights to unlimited use of peaceful nuclear program and technology, both Iran and 5+1 should remain committed to principles both side had accepted; in both situations of reaching a deal (sooner or later), our nation will be an ultimate victor,” he said.
On Parliament recent act mandating the government to protect nuclear achievements of the nation, Velayati believed that the act was passed mainly to support the negotiators.
Earlier in his meeting with South Korean 1st vice-minister of foreign affairs Mr. Cho Tae-yong, Velayati urged South Korea to remind the supporter countries of terrorism of the threats of terrorist groups, since Mr. Velayati believed, South Korea had relations with those countries.
He also told South Korean official that currently ISIL was the most dangerous terrorist group and a potential threat to all countries and Christian, Jew, and Muslim communities; “South Korea should recommend countries supporting terrorist groups to stop equipping the groups with logistical support and money, as their support would backfire, hitting their once supporters as well,” Velayati told his guest.
Mr. Tae-yong expressed satisfaction with the meeting and said that Iran and South Korea had had a positive and sustainable relations since 1962 and that “I convey the friendship message of South Korean government and nation to Iran.”
