Fuel basket diversification is a priority in Iran’s energy and transportation sector to cut the dependence on gasoline, improvement of efficiency, and reduction of environmental polluting agents.
Since few years ago, the authorities had waged many attempts to introduce energy carriers such as CNG, LPG, electricity, hybrid, and low-sulfur gas oil to Iran’s fuel basket.
Balasubramaniam Murali Deputy Resident Representative to the UNDP – Iran office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) said that the UNDP had signed a 5-year deal and predicted that by 2017 clean fuel of Biodiesel would be produced using Waste Oil.
“Using waste oil from cookeries to produce clean fuel would be a great work for the environment,” he added. Amir Jafarpour, the deputy head of the Transportation and Fuel Management Committee, said that the country had started to produce clean fuel using waste cookeries oil for the first time. “According to Vision Plan, 70 per cent of fuel basket should be comprised of gasoline and gas oil, and the remaining part should be electricity, CNG, and hybrid fuels,” he added.
He also said that in the first steps, urban and sub-urban public transport vehicles would use biodiesel. “In the budget plan of the coming year (beginning March 21), a budget entry has been allocated to biodiesel fuel,” he said.
