Larijani made the remarks in an address to the executive committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Member States (PUIC) in Tehran on Friday.
The Iranian parliament speaker also said in view of the parliaments’ strategic position on the countries’ domestic issues, the PUIC is able to play a significant role in dealing with the issues facing the Muslim world.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani said that the PUIC has the potential to help facilitate the progress and development of Muslim countries.
The PUIC is composed of the parliaments of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations which has membership of 57 states spread over four continents.
The organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world and is seeking to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world with the aim of promoting international peace and harmony among various nations of the world.
The executive committee of the PUIC is making preparations for the 9th meeting of parliament speakers of the union, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran on February 18 and 19.
Hossein Sheikholeslam, an advisor to Iranian Majlis speaker on international affairs, had previously said that it was expected that 25 parliament speakers to attend the 9th conference of the PUIC in Tehran.
