Iran to commemorate translator Anneliese Ghahraman-Beck

TEHRAN, March 8 (MNA) -- Tehran’s Beheshti University will be paying tribute to German translator of Persian literature Anneliese Ghahraman-Beck during a ceremony on March 11.

Ghahraman-Beck died in Tehran at the age of 79.

She translated contemporary Iranian literary texts into German including works by Jalal Al-e Ahmad, Hushang Golshiri, Sadeq Hedayat and Abbas Marufi.

Born in southern Germany in 1929, Ghahraman-Beck studied German language at the University of Tübingen.

In 1958, she came to Iran with her Iranian husband and shortly afterwards began a career in education -- as a professor -- at the Melli University, which was renamed Beheshti University after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Ghahraman-Beck retired in 1998.

She also wrote several books on German language and literature, which are currently being used in Iranian Universities.
