Aref performs first show of Phoenix concert series

TEHRAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) -- The first night of the Aref band’s Phoenix concert series was warmly welcomed by the audience at Tehran’s National Grand Hall on Tuesday.

The traditional band, led by Parviz Meshkatian and also featuring musicians Aiin Meshkatian, Navid Afqah, Navid Dehqan, Hassan Nahid, Keyvan Saket, Arsham Qaderi, Bahram Saed, and Siavash Purfazli, performed the pieces “Cry”, “Gavan”, “Praise and Complain”, “Bahara”, “Where Art Thou?”, and “Hidden like the Heart”.

 

 

Vocalist Hamidreza Nurbakhsh accompanied the band in the performances of these pieces.

 

The leader of the Aref Band and santur virtuoso Parviz Meshkatian, tar virtuoso Keyvan Saket, setar player Behdad Babaii, and tonbak virtuoso Navid Afqah also gave solo performances during the show.

 

Parviz Meshkatain (on santur) and Hassan Nahid (on ney) played improvised pieces.

 

The last song of the set was “Phoenix”.

 

After Aref left the stage, the audience continued to applaud, so the band returned for an encore in which they performed the smash hit “O Iran!” with the audience singing along.

 

World-famous filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami designed the stage and the posters, brochures, and tickets for the concert.

 

The Phoenix concert series continues at the National Grand Hall until November 30.
