United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise visit to Iraq late yesterday as part of his regional tour amid growing fears the Israel-Hamas war could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Blinken was spotted wearing a bulletproof vest at Baghdad International Airport after the Iraqi resistance threatened escalation in the event of Blinken's visit to Iraq.
In reaction to the top diplomat's visit to Iraq last night, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian ridiculed the US top diplomat wearing the vest and said that that is the reality in US role [in Iraq.]
He added that, "Unfortunately, the US sent us a message during the past 3 days, claiming to be looking for a ceasefire, but in practice, they supported the genocide and crimes committed by the Zionists in Gaza."
He expressed hope that the US will change its policy soon and stop supporting the occupying regime.
