Iran dismisses claims on training Taliban

TEHRAN, Jul. 04 (MNA) – The Iranian embassy in Kabul issued a statement Wednesday, vehemently rejecting accusations of providing military training to Taliban in Afghanistan, as cited by some Western media.

“Terrorism and extremism are a common threat to all countries in the region,” the statement said, adding “joint efforts and collective actions are an inevitable necessity to confront such a threat.”

The embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul reaffirms Tehran’s strong commitment to peace and stability in the friendly and neighboring country of Afghanistan, the Iranian embassy's statement adds.

It continues to say that the Iranian embassy believes that leveling such ‘unrealistic and baseless’ accusations is aimed at launching a campaign of psychological warfare among Afghans people [against Iran] and damaging the good relations between the governments of Iran and Afghanistan.

It further emphasizes that the Western media should focus their attention on the real reasons behind the failures of the Afghan governments in combating terrorism in Afghanistan and avoid diverting public opinion. It also calls on Western media to stop leveling baseless accusations against Afghanistan's neighboring countries, whose securities are linked to the stability of Afghanistan.

The statement went on to conclude that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has repeatedly stated, has never involved Afghanistan with its disputes with other countries, and believes in strengthening the Afghan government and reducing the suffering of the people of the country.
