50 million foreign travelers crossed Iran’s air space last year

TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (MNA) – Brig. Gen. Farzad Esmaili said that around 50 million passengers of foreign countries with foreign airlines were air transited through Iran’s air territory in last year.

Islamic Republic of Iran’s Air Defense Force (IRIADF) Commander Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili addressed Tehran Friday prayers before the main sermons on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of forming Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.

The commander referred to the eight years of war imposed by Saddam’s regime on Iran and reiterated that the past experience proved that the air defense of country should be domestic and agile. He commemorated the success achieved in Operation Valfajr 8, in which 80 helicopters of Saddam’s regime were downed by Iranian air defense forces.

The commander recounted that mainly the attacks today break out through air whether with airplanes or missiles and fortified areas are not just the geographical borders of country but all nuclear sites, and major accomplishments of country like oil refineries, drilling rigs, gas fields, and petrochemical plants, and Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base with a ultra-force scope of decision has utilized 3700 defensive points with the help of IRGC, Army, and Popular Mobilization Organization forces to blow the first slap of Iran to any aggressor.

The commander pointed to the presence of cross-regional powers in the Middle East and the international arrogant in the Western Asia, and praised Iranian Leader’s decision in 10 years ago who devised the forming of the air defense base.

Saying that 1400 permitted foreigner passenger planes cross over Iran’s air space on a daily basis, Esmaili boasted the security of Iran in unsecure region which has reassured foreign airliners that Iran is the safest path for passenger air transit in the whole Middle East. According to Esmaili, around 500,000 foreign planes used Iran’s air territory in last year of Iranian calendar.

“Some countries of region may be richer in terms of equipment, but thanks to the blood of our martyrs we are safer than any country in the region,” articulated the Iranian commander.
