Iran summons Swiss charge d’affaires in Tehran

TEHRAN, Jun. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s FM spokesperson said the Swiss envoy in Tehran was summoned to convey Iran’s strong objection to the US government over intrusive remarks made by Rex Tillerson.

Spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of foreign Affairs Bahram Ghasemi said “following the interfering and meddling statements made by the US secretary of State Rex Tillerson and given the absence of the Swiss ambassador, charge d’affaires of the European country was summoned by the Ministry’s director general for US affairs to express Iran’s complaint about Tillerson's anti-Iran remarks in the country’s House of Representatives.”

The Embassy of Switzerland serves as the protector of US interests in Iran, he continued.

Ghasemi quoted General Director for the Americas at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh as saying “the statements by the US secretary of state were interfering in Iran’s internal affairs and they are severely slammed.”

Keshavarzzadeh also repudiated the remarks as against the provisions of international law and the US government’s international commitments, including UN Charter as well as its bilateral deals with Iran saying “the US government needs to be held accountable to these remarks.”

Meanwhile, Swiss charge d’affaires said he would convey Iran’s message to the US government as soon as possible and communicate the results to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
