New anti-Iran sanctions, US intrinsic animosity toward Iran

TEHRAN, Jun. 16 (MNA) – Bahram Ghasemi of Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the new sanctions passed in the US senate as in line with the intrinsic animosity of the US government toward Iran.

“The passing of new sanctions is in line with the intrinsic animosity of US toward Iran,” said Bahram Ghasemi, the Spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. His remarks came after the US senate approved imposition of new sanctions against Iran and Russia, on Thursday.

Ghasemi affirmed that approval of new non-nuclear sanctions in the Senate Foreign Relations and Banking Committee, bearing in mind the history of the body, was not unexpected.

“The government of the United States of America, according to the JCPOA, which is an international document, is under some obligations which should be met completely and with benevolence,” underlined the Iranian diplomat, “in this field, the domestic legislation of countries is irrelevant and governments cannot reach for such regulations to evade their international responsibilities.”

The spokesman of Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs asserted that as Iran has so far been obliged by letter to its commitments codified in the agreement, and this has been re-affirmed repetitively by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the other sides are also responsible to meet their promises in the agreement.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, is meticulously watching and examining the articles and the text of this Act, its approval procedure in the US congress, and its eminent signing by the US president,” asserted Ghasemi, “and the committee to supervise the implementation of the JCPOA will devise the fit counter-measures to secure the national interests of Iran.”

He articulated that what has been said about Iran’s armed forces and missile capabilities in the Senate plan is completely unjustified and illegal. He asserted that Iranian armed forces will bravely defend the security and interests of their country and such measures would be the least effective upon them.

“Iran’s missile program is completely justified and has no contradiction with resolution 2231,” said the diplomat reiterating that nothing can deprive the Islamic Republic of Iran from its legitimate right of self-defense.
