Tahiti advanced to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 final after winning 3-2 over Iran in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
In a nip and tuck semi-final debut, the Persian side took the lead one Ali Nazem found the net midway through the second half. However, Tepa of Tahiti scored an equalizer late into the contest to send the match to extra time.
Meanwhile, neither side could find the score goals in the additional period and the game went to penalties. It took 12 attempts to decide the winner in the shoot-out, but eventually it was Raimoana Bennett who scored a decisive goal for Tahiti.
The other semifinal showdown was competed between Brazil and Italy in Nassau of the Bahamas where Brazilians managed to pull out an 8-4 victory over the European side and set up a date against Tahiti in the finals.
Accordingly, Iranian soccer players will take up Italy on Sunday evening Tehran local time in an attempt to occupy the third place.
The 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which is the ninth edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, kicked off in Nassau, the Bahamas, on April 27, and will wrap up today on May 7.
