Iran to construct 1st coal power plant

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (MNA) – An official has announced the plan to build the country’s first coal-fired power station with Iranian finance and in partnership with a Chinese company.

Director of Coal Power Plant Project in Tabas of TPPH company of Thermal Electric Power Generation Alireza Nasrollahi said following detailed technical negotiations with a domestic bank, the Iranian institution agreed to take charge of the project.

The official emphasized that the Coal Power Plant Project in Tabas kicked off in 2007 though it was not accomplished due to the ban on opening Letters of Credit (LCs) asserting “since 2010, a contractor has been working on equipment of the project and the section if 50 per cent through.”

Since 1390 contractor equipment on the shop floor activity, and this sector is 50 percent physical progress.

Nasrollahi reiterated that the delay in construction phase was rooted in cruel international sanctions; “the operational stages of the project will begin in the near future thanks to new opportunities of cooperation with Export Development Bank of Iran.”

“Tabas coal-fired power station will come on stream with finance of an Iranian banks and in collaboration with a consortium comprising a domestic firm and Shanghai Electric Group Company.”

Located 85 kilometers off the Iranian city of Tabas and in proximity of Mazino Coal Mine, Coal Power Plant Project in Tabas marks Iran’s first ever fossil fuel power station and enjoys a capacity of 650 megawatts.
