National 5-a-side footballers advance to finals

TEHRAN, Sep. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s national 5-a-side football team overcame Argentina to reach the finals round at 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

The contest between Iran and Argentina was held at the Olympic Tennis Center where no goals were scored in the two intervals. Meanwhile, the Iranian side gained the upper hand in penalty shoot outs as the match ended 2-1 in Iran’s favor.

Iran’s squad, comprising Meysam Shojaeian, Amir Pourrazavi, Hossein Rajabpour, Behzad Zadaliasghar and Ahmadreza Shahhosseini, was being applauded by Brazilian spectators all through the semifinal showdown.

Iranian 5-a-side footballers had collected a total of five points in the preliminaries round to secure a place in the semifinal round.

National Iranian 5-a-sdie team will take up host Brazil in the final competition on Saturday while China and Argentina are slated to fight over bronze medal.

Football 5-a-side, full of amazing dribbles and shooting, is the visually impaired version of the world’s most popular sport and has been part of the Paralympic Games since Athens 2004.
