TEHRAN, Sep. 04 (MNA) – ‘Parting’ written and directed by Navid Mahmoudi will be the sole representative of Iranian cinema at the 21st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), South Korea.

‘Parting’ narrates the story of two young Afghans, Fereshteh and Nabi, who are in love, but Fereshteh has to follow her parents and leave Afghanistan to find refuge in Iran. Nabi decides to illegally cross the border, find Fereshteh and take her through Turkey towards Europe and a better life.

“The threats engendered by ISIL and the Taliban are omnipresent,” said director Mahmoudi, “in countries menaced by these terrorist groups, people seek a better life by migrating, despite the fact that many lose their lives en route. My brother, Jamshid, and I have tried to portray their difficult passage.”

The 21st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has selected late film-director Abbas Kiarostami (who passed away July 4th at age 76) for The Asian Filmmaker of the Year. The Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award is awarded to Asian cineastes or organizations that have shown the most outstanding contribution to developing the Asian film industry and culture. The award will be given to Ahmad Kiarostami (a son of the director) during the opening ceremony of BIFF 2016.

The 21st Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6 to 15.
