Freestyle wrestling: Karimi fails to reach to semifinals

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s 86kg freestyler has failed to reach to semifinals with an untimely defeat in the hands of the US representative J'den Cox 5-1.

The defeat was a blow to Alireza Karimi who was triumphant in two consecutive matches. Alireza Karimi was dominant during the match against Tunisian Mohamed Saadaoui and crushed him 9-0. In his second match, Karimi faced Mihail Ganev of Bulgaria and defeated him 7-2.

With this defeat from his American rival, he will wait for the fate of the US wrestler to find a place in second chance group and a possible bronze medal only after two wins in the losers’ group. If Cox is eliminated, Karimi’s star will remain on the descendant and would wait till Tokyo 2020 Olympics for another chance for breaking the ice in his Olympic career.
