Iran receives swimming quota at Budapest C’ship

TEHRAN, Jul. 03 (MNA) – The International Swimming Federation (FINA) handed Iranian swimmers a wild card to Rio Olympics following the Budapest Championship in Hungary.

The final day of the FINA Budapest Championship, as part of Swimming Qualifying Events, took place on Saturday with three Iranian swimmers competing against rivals.

Iran’s Mahdi Ansari clocked 25:33 seconds in the Men’s 50m butterfly event on road to the finals. After a short break, Ansari finished the final round in 25:15 seconds to land fifth.

Swimming in 200m breaststroke category, Aria Nasimishad of Iran finished fourth by clocking 02:20.68 minutes in the finals.

Iran’s national team captain Jamal Chavoshifar attended the Men’s 100m backstroke event where he ended in the fourth position with a record of 58:13 seconds.

Following the international tournament, the International Swimming Federation (FINA, French: la Fédération Internationale de Natation) offered the Iranian squad a ticket to 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games for the country to have one representative at the upcoming extravaganza.

The Budapest Championships kicked off on June 29 in Hungary and came to an end on July 2.
