Judo team to attend Baku Grand Slam

TEHRAN, May 03 (MNA) – Iranian judo practitioners will depart Tehran for Baku on Tuesday evening to take part in 2016 Judo Grand Slam in Azerbaijan Republic.

The second Grand Slam of the 2016 IJF World Judo Tour will be held in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku from 6-8 May while Iran’s 4-member team will leave the country in a few hours in order to participate in the great international tournament.

Iran’s squad comprises Alireza Khojasteh, Saeid Molaei, Saeid Moradi and Javad Mahjoub who will face rivals in Baku Grand Slam.

Competitions for light-weight categories will convene on Friday 6 May in Haydar Aliyev Sport Hall where Iran’s Alireza Khojasteh (66kg) will appear on tatami.

Judo practitioners at -81kg weight category including Iran’s Saeid Molaei of Iran will fight for medals on Saturday 7 May while Saeid Moradi (-90kg) and Javad Mahjoub (-100) will fight against rivals on the last day of the event Sunday 8 May.

The Iranian outfit is looking forward to snare Olympic berths by Molaei, Mahjoub and Khojasteh.

Medal winners at 2016 Baku Grand Slam will be awarded by prize money as the gold, silver and bronze winner will receive 5000, 3000 and 1500 US dollars, respectively.
