World not to forget Heikal’s bravery against tyranny

TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (MNA) – In a condolence letter addressed to wife of late veteran Egyptian journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, FM Zarif said defenders of truth and justice in the world will never forget Heikal’s brave positions in the face of tyranny and occupation.

While expressing his deepest condolences over the death of veteran Egyptian political commentator, sage, and distinguished journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal who died at 92 on Feb. 17, Iranian Foreing Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif noted “Heikal’s valuable works and services in keeping with the demands of nations and introducing the correct nature of world developments and keeping informed various generations of regional nations will always remain on our memories.”

Zarif lauded Heikal’s constant efforts in correctly clarifying the policies of colonialists and ‘Zionist occupiers’ as well as the portrayal of himself as a prominent and enduring journalist with realistic and insightful views during his career that spanned more than 70 years.

“Undoubtedly, freethinkers and defenders of truth and justice in Iran and the world will never forget his courageous and fair positions and analyses in defending the ideals of those fighting against tyranny and occupation and in support of independence and liberation of nations,” said Zarif.

Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, Egypt’s most prominent writer and journalist, died at 92 in Cairo after suffering from weeks of kidney problems. Heikal continued to appear on his famous TV shows and interviews until recently despite reports that he was in deteriorating health conditions. Heikal was a critic of Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak, and the head of the influential semi-official Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram.
