‘Silicon’ vies for NY Global Short Film Awards

TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (MNA) – Ali Akbar Qasemi’s ‘Silicon’ has advanced to competitive section of the first Global Short Film Awards in New York.

The first edition will display short films under 15 minutes long in four categories of documentary, fiction, experimental, and animation sections. “Global Short Film Awards recognize excellence in highly creative and imaginative films under 15 minutes long. These short films will be suitable to meet the increasing content demand for intelligent phones, digital and hand held devices as well as internet, commercial, art, science and educational applications. For the premier edition, finalists and a winner will be selected in 2-D and 3-D formats in each category,” wrote the official website of the festival.

The select movies will also have chances to be displayed in Cannes Festival. ‘Silicon’ is the story of a rural boy who finds silicon quite serendipitously and goes to find silicon in his native rural setting. Finally, he comes to this conclusion that silicon is too far abundant on earth and easily found everywhere. Among the film crew notable are Amir Mohammad Zirak, Parvaneh Madhi, Davoud Qasemi, Ramin Hallaji, and Mansoureh Raeisi as young cast.
