Khoshroo:

US should ‘review its policies’ of fostering terrorism

TEHRAN, Feb. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s permanent representative to the UN has said Islamic Republic of Iran has always played a constructive role in regional issues.

Gholamali Khoshroo addressed a ceremony held in New York City to mark the Islamic Revolution of 1979 on Sunday in Imam Ali (as) Islamic Center, believed that the issues in the Middle East would remain unsolved should the US fail to review its policies of fostering terrorism and also of countries supporting terrorism.

“This year (2015-2016) has been an annus mirabilis for Iran, since nuclear negotiation ultimately came to fruition after 12 years of hectic negotiations. The JCPOA discredited all UN resolutions against Iran; it was not only a success for Iran’s foreign policy, but also helped remove the veils and made clear the realities of countries behind terrorism,” he told the meeting.

“Despite all cruel and unjust sanctions against the Islamic Republic, the IAEA’s inspections confirmed peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program; US baseless allegations of Iran’s support for terrorism are to be seen in the same light, since Iran has itself been a victim of terrorism. Shi’ites have been targeted around the world by mercenaries supported by US allies,” he added.

Khoshroo posed the question of who was behind the Al-Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan and the extremist ideology had afflicted the region with the worst calamities; “Taliban killed Iranian diplomats in Mazar Sharif in 1998, since we opposed the extremist group. However, inaccurate and misguided analysis and evaluation of the situation have given way to Iranophobia instead; there is some hopes in the fact that the US policies of the recent years, have found the right direction about the major source of terrorism. Now, Mr. Obama would agree that Saudi Arabia’s devastating policies in recruitment of the young people and proselytizing them into terrorism and the cult of death should be drastically reviewed,” Khoshroo told the ceremony.

“The international community has considerably changed its view of Iran and has come to this hopeful conclusion that Iran’s role has been only constructive since they invite and recognize Iran’s contribution to sessions to solve crises in the region, and that other countries in the region than Iran are the source of evil and extremism and terrorism,” he emphasized.
