Foreign ministry summons Nigerian charge d'affaires

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) – In response to the killing of Shias in Nigeria, Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs summoned the country’s charge d’affaires in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian foreign ministry summoned the charge d’affaires of the embassy of Nigeria in Tehran in order to protest to Nigerian government over the killing of Shia Muslims in the African country.

The action followed the recent attack on a Shia religious site in the city of Zaria and the residence of the Shia leader Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky by Nigerian army leaving dozens of Muslims dead.

During the last week, Nigerian army has attacked a Shia religious site in the city of Zaria in two stages on the claim that Shias had blocked the convoy of Nigeria’s army chief of staff, which left hundreds of Shia Muslims dead and wounded.

On Sunday, the Nigerian military forces reportedly arrested Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, leader of Nigerian Shia, the fate of whom is still unknown.
