Iran concedes defeat against Russia

TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) – Despite losing the match against Russia, Iranian men’s national deaf futsal team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2015 Deaf Futsal World Cup in Thailand as the top team in their group.

In their last group stage encounter, Iranian deaf futsal players met the Russians on Wednesday morning where Iran lost 1-2.

Having won their earlier showdowns against Japan, Algeria, Switzerland and Norway, the hearing-impaired Iranian futsal players remained atop Group B of the tournament with a total of 12 points reaching the semi-finals.

Accordingly, Iran will take on the Netherlands while Russia will meet Thailand on Thursday November 26.

Iran has been seeded in Group B along with Algeria, Japan, Norway, Russia and Switzerland while Group A consists of Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Iranian women's deaf futsal squad conceded a 2-6 defeat to Japan in a quarterfinal match.

Iranian women’s deaf futsal squad was fighting for the fifth to eighth places on Wednesday morning but having lost to Japan, the Iranian team failed to stand among top six teams in the world.

Neda Rezapour and Fatemeh Sharif found the net for Iran during the encoutner.

Iranian women's hearing-impaired futsal players will face the host Thailand in an attempt to gain either the seventh of the eights place of the event.

While China, Italy, Sweden and Thailand were in Group A, Japan, Russia and Spain played in Group B. Brazil, Germany and Norway were drawn in Group C.

The 2015 Deaf Futsal World Cup is underway in Bangkok, Thailand and will come to an end on November 28.
