‘Why Down with US?’ campaign sweeps social media

TEHRAN, Nov. 04 (MNA) – On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of US embassy takeover in Tehran, thousands of Iranians have participated in a campaign on socials media expressing their reasons why the anti-US movement needs to be kept alive.

Commemorating the November 4 anniversary of US ‘Den of Espionage’ takeover in 1979, thousands of Iranians have started participating in a social media campaign dubbed ‘Why Down with US?’ by posting pictures of themselves with their hands raised up, showing to the camera the reasons why Iranian nation still holds such a great amount of distrust and animosity toward the US government.

The Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called the fight against global Arrogance, "a rational, logical and wise movement with scientific background based on historical experience of the Iranian nation."

Notable from the participants were the mother and father of Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, an Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated in a bomb blast on 11 Jan. 2012, whose turned up palms have these words written on them: “Why down with US? For killing the Mostafas of our country”; “Why down with US? For dismantling centrifuges meant for peaceful purposes.”

Also, Dr. Emad Afroogh a prominent Iranian academician and former politician, joined the campaign with his palm having these words written on it: “The slogan ‘Down with US’ is the least we can do in protest against all the oppressions the US has exerted on us.”

Among the reasons listed by others participating in the campaign are: for being a global Arrogance, backing Israel and terrorism; for martyred nuclear scientists, for victims of chemical weapons, for killing innocent people of Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, Palestine…, for the 1953 coup d’état against former Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, and for bringing death and poverty to millions of people.
