SOFIA, Nov. 03 (MNA) – A new translation of Gulistan, prominent work of Iranian medieval poet Saadi, was unveiled in National Library of Bulgaria.

A new Bulgarian translation of Saadi’s Gulistan was unveiled in National Library of Bulgaria in Sofia in a ceremony in attendance of ranking Iranian diplomats and Mohammad Ali Kiani, the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Sunday.

Kiani read a message of appreciation from Iranian Ambassador to Sofia Abdollah Nowrouzi while many cultural figures of Bulgaria, in addition to the president of the National Library were present in the event.

A Muslim Bulgarian, Khatidzhe Barbar, translated the masterpiece after she was influenced by edificatory values of the book while teaching it to students at a school.

It is estimated that Saadi has composed the work in around 1258 CE since then it has been a source of inspiration for many poets and essayist to pen a work following the same framework.

The Gulistan is one of the two major works of Saadi whose Bustan has also been translated many times in the west.
