SAN PEDRO SULA, Oct. 6 (MNA) – Representatives of 44 nations are participated at the 25th meeting of heads of national agencies responsible for struggling trafficking of illicit drugs in Latin America and the Caribbean on Monday.

The event, organized under the aegis of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, was inaugurated by the country's president, Juan Orlando Hernandez.

According to organizers, quoted by the newspaper La Prensa, the event aims to encourage governments to adopt laws against crime and drugs, while promoting research in this field.

Similarly, during the meeting, participants will discuss issues such as drug trafficking in small scale, prophylaxis, legislation, strategies and potential border measures.

Honduras is a country without conflict in the world, with a homicide rate in 2014 of 68 per 100,000 inhabitants, the equivalent of about 16 deaths per day.

The Honduran government itself acknowledged that most of the homicides are related to drug trafficking in the territory.
