Iran not after politicization of Mina tragedy: Araghchi

TEHRAN, Oct. 02 (MNA) – Iranian deputy FM has reacted to Saudi FM’s claims criticizing Iran for what he has called it politicization of Mina tragedy.

The special meeting of the foreign ministers of members to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit to protest recent Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque. During the meeting where Iranian delegation was headed by Deputy FM for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi, he reacted to Saudi FM claims accusing Iran of what he had called it Iran's attempt to politicize the Mina tragedy.

"The incident in Mina led to death of thousands of innocent Hajj pilgrims among which 465 victims were Iranians and now 8 days after the incident, 220 Iranians are still missing, thought to be killed while their families have no information of their destiny," Recounted Araghchi reminding the dimensions of the deadly catastrophe and reaffirmed that "Iran has no intention to politicize the tragic incident. What Iran is seeking is responsible behavior from Saudi officials and commitment for taking necessary measures to prevent similar unfortunate incidents in the future."

Further, Saudi FM vowed that his country will strongly punish those responsible for the mishap.
