Refugee crisis might grow like a rolling snow ball

NEW YORK, Sep. 26 (MNA) – The Syrian refugee crisis might grow like a rolling snowball at the extreme of resulting uncontrollable or irreversible for any party, conference or agenda, if it is not solved on time, warned Lebanon yesterday.

In his speech at the 39th annual meeting of Foreign ministers of Group 77 (G-77), plus China, Lebanese Foreign minister, Gebran Bassil, expressed the magnitude of the problem that constitutes for his country the growing flow of the displaced by the war in Syria.

In his speech, the Arab country's Foreign minister slammed the industrialized nations for failing to materialize financial and logistic aid to Beirut, while saying they have problems to give refugee to the wave of people coming from Syria and other nations in conflict.

Addressing the forum seasoning in New York, Gebran Bassil said that the poor Lebanon, a nation with 4 million inhabitants, have received 2 million refugees, while the wealthy Europe, which have 500 million population, have been fighting for a month to receive 120,000 refugees.

Bassil said that apart from the 4 million Lebanese residents, his country received the stunning number of 1.5 million Syrian refugees since the war started in March 2011, adding a half million Palestinians in similar condition.

This crisis has catastrophic repercussions in areas of security, development, economy, society, and environment, warned the diplomat when saying that Lebanese state-run institutions have collapsed due to the burden of that responsibility.
