In a Friday message, President Rouhani described Eid al-Fitr as a 'test of piety' saying, “this year we are celebrating two Eids; one on the occasion of the victory of national will and determination which marks the historic day of July 14 and the successful conclusion of Iran’s nuclear program and the other is the religious Eid of piety that we are now celebrating.”
The Iranian President compared the tolerance of abstaining from eating, drinking and committing sins for a whole month with the patience Iranian nation demonstrated in the face of sanctions, and economic and political pressures, saying “we have proved through our political piety that our determination only points toward a peaceful use of nuclear technology and no individual or government can deny us the right.”
He further stressed that Islam – the same religion that orders against destruction of nature and murdering of human beings – indicates that developing nuclear weapons contradicts Divine and humane principles.
“We succeeded in proving that we are independent and developed both in the fields of technical and political knowledge and can excel both in technical sciences and the humanities,” Rouhani said in the message.
President Rouhani further wished all Muslims around the globe honor and happiness.
This year, the Eid al-Fitr which ends the fasting month of Ramadan, is observed on Saturday in Iran and some other Islamic countries.
