Zarif to brief Majlis on Tuesday

TEHRAN, Jul. 17 (MNA) –To brief Iranian MPs on the recent Iran-Sextet agreement, the FM Zarif will participate on Tuesday session of Parliament.

The Vice-Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis Hossein Sobhaninia told Mehr News Agency the agreement reached in Vienna has to be approved by Iran’s Parliament as outlined in articles 77 and 125 of Iran’s constitution.

At the same time, according to Sobhaninia, the US Congress has the time to review the final nuclear deal of Iran and the 5+1 group of countries, and during that time President Barack Obama cannot waive any US sanctions on Iran that were passed by Congress.

Further, the lawmaker reiterated that Majlis has always been backing the Iranian negotiators and added that to reinforece the harmony between Parliament and government the Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will participate in upcoming session of Parliament on Tuesday to inform the MPs of the minutes of the agreement achieved.

“FM Zarif will be here to report on the measures taken in the course of the talks and to clear up vague points for the questioning MPs”, said Sobhaninia.

Whether the session is with closed doors or not is up to the Majlis Presiding Board but for sure there would be a session in National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Majlis to weigh the agreement of July 14.

Sobhaninia said the final decision of Iran is left on the joint decision made by Parliament and the High Council of National Security and added that if the MPs and politicians come to the conclusion that the deal is in line with the nation’s interests, then it would be ratified.

Iran and 5+1 – the US, the UK, Russia, France, China, and Germany- reached an agreement on July 14 in Vienna.
