10-fold rise in foreign transit from Qeshm

TEHRAN, Jun. 15 (MNA) – Value of foreign transits from the Persian Gulf island of Qeshm has increased ten times in the past two months, a local customs official said.

Customs Director General of Qeshm Free Zone Organization Hossein Saeedi said since the beginning of the new Iranian year (March 21, 2015), goods transitted via his organization have shown an increase of 33 percent in weight compared to the same period last year, IRNA reported.

He said the goods valued at above $16 million. As for the arrival of transited goods, he said a total of 4,055,000 tons of goods were transited into the island during the period.

According to the official, the amount valued at above $17 million, showing a five-fold growth in weight compared to the same period last year.
