TEHRAN, Jun. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s minister of roads and city planning has said Imam Khomeini International Airport will see opening of new terminals.

Abbas Akhundi, who was paying a visit to construction process of Salam Terminal of the airport on Saturday, told reporters that the project had kicked off two months ago, and currently, it had 7 per cent of progress. “The Mostazafan Foundation’s subsidiary company, National Construction Company is the major contractor of the terminal development, and we will work to inaugurate the terminal by next 14 months on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr of 2016,” told Akhundi to reporters.

“The Salam Terminal is the T-5 of the Airport City of the IKIA projects; the project will receive a total of $120mn, with the first installment of $15mn being paid in cash to accelerate the project,” Akhundi said.

“The Note 5 of the Budget Plan of the financial year beginning March 21, 2015 allows private sector to receive the resources to build infrastructures from the National Development Fund; the Ministry of Roads and City Planning and its subsidiary companies will guarantee the return of these resources,” Akhundi detailed. “The building of Salam Terminal will be financed by amounts coming from incoming and departing flights and the Development Fund; the Airport City of the IKIA has been established and will act as a driving force of national development behind the improved level of airport services.”

Akhundi also announced building of the second terminal, Iranshahr, which he said would be 200,000 square meters in area and would handle 20 million passengers annually; “last week, we announced the call for investors for Iranshahr Terminal, and it is projected to be operative by the next 3 years,” said the minister.

“Salam and Iranshahr Terminals provide excellent capacity to improve passenger handling, effectively doubling the current 6 million passengers annually,” Akhundi added.
