Tuesday’s talks are the fifth round of talks since April 22 and the 9-day negotiations in the Swiss city of Lausanne in order to draft a final nuclear agreement based on a framework agreed upon in Lausanne Statement.
According to the schedule, the talks will proceed by Friday and other 5+1 deputy foreign ministers may join the talks on the last day.
This round of talks are at the deputy and expert level and co-presided by Baeidinejad, who is Director General for Political and International Security Affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, and Stephen Clement, an aide to the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini.
Deputy FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi had said on Friday that the process of drafting the nuclear deal was 'very slow' due to the extent and complexity of the issues discussed.
In an interview with IRIB’s channel 2 on Monday, Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran would never agree to the inspection of its military sites or any interview with its nuclear scientists.
He also highlighted the role of Iran’s Parliament in nuclear case, saying that Tehran’s acceptance to sign up to the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) depends on the Parliament’s approval.
Negotiations between Iran and the six countries are aimed at reaching a final agreement to fully resolve the decade-old dispute between the West and Tehran over the latter’s nuclear energy program.
The two sides sealed an interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24, 2013 which came into force on January 20.
