Iran to stage joint naval drills with 3 states

TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) – Iran’s navy commander says the Islamic Republic plans to stage joint naval maneuvers with Kazakhstan, Russia and Oman.

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Monday as Iran dispatches its fleets to other countries, it also has on agenda to hold joint naval exercises with flotillas of other countries which enter Iranian waters.

The commander noted that Iran’s Navy has previously held joint war games with Russia and China in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2015).

Deputy Commander General of the Islamic Republic Army, Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi also announced Iran would stage joint naval maneuvers with Venezuela, Indonesia and South Africa.

In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers. It has managed to foil several attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers during its missions in international waters.
