Sanctions removal on same day deal implemented: Araghchi

TEHRAN, May 06 (MNA) – Iranian deputy FM underlined the necessary measures taken to remove sanctions on the very same day the final deal comes into force.

In an interview to IRIB TV channel 2 in New York on Tuesday, Deputy Foreign Minister and Iranian chief negotiator in talks with 5+1 Seyed Abbas Araghchi underlined all-out removal of anti-Iranian sanctions on the day the final deal comes into effect.

He criticized pressure made by US Congress to pass a bill which would hold up the agreement on the day all parties are ready to implement.

Araghchi noted that lifting anti-Iranian sanctions was a key issue during the consultations, adding that a general agreement had been reached and now the negotiators focused on the details of the deal.

Within the time of achieving an agreement and its implementation, both sides need to live up to the commitments they have made, Araghchi stressed, adding that IAEA should make changes to its laws and regulations to accelerate the process of implementation of agreement and removal of sanctions on the same day.

Araghchi also said that the process of drawing up the text was progressing 'slowly but steadily,' expressing hope that the agreement would be ready in time. “Serious discussions were under way on such issues as the languages and the style of the agreement,” Araghchi added.

“If there will be no good agreement, we will not insist to strike a deal, we are certainly looking for a good deal otherwise we prefer not to have an agreement,” Araghchi said in response to a question on the nature of the agreement.

He noted that four days of intensive negotiations wrapped up in New York on Tuesday and the next round of talks are scheduled for next week in Vienna.
